What your daughter is feeling is quite normal. If you are concerned about her having SPD, try reading "The Everything Parent's Guide to Sensory Integration Disorder" by Terri Mauro. It is very helpful! There is also a wealth of information on various websites.
My daughter is 10 years old, has SPD, and hasn't worn socks in years! She can't stand the seams or the feeling of the material on her arch. She also won't wear any shoes that completely surround her foot - only something she can slip her toes into. I used to worry about her feet getting cold in the winter and the like, but her doctor told me that if she gets cold enough she will 'adapt' to the socks - if only temporarily.
They have been right!
We used to fight EVERY morning
about clothes/socks/shoes/hair... but then I learned that what
I want her to do or wear is not important. What IS... getting where we need to go, and on time!! If she has to go without socks, or in a dress or something that doesn't match - then so be it.
The harm that was coming to our relationship was not worth the issues. If I have learned one thing over the last 7 years of struggling with SPD, it is that I need to let my daughter be who she is - not what I want her to be or what society thinks she should be. As long as it is not harmful, of course.
If she won't wear pants, then we don't buy pants. If she doesn't want to wear gloves when it's cold, then her hands get cold. If her underwear is more comfortable to her when pulled up like a thong, then so be it. Our house has become such a more peaceful and calm place! We are ALL happier!!
Don't let it take you as long as it took us!!!
