I also do not think its wrong. You need to be comfortable and trust him not to cross the street or talk to strangers. Also never by himself, only with friends. Also something you may consider is the emergency watches they have for kids now. i can't remember what it is called so if I have time I will try to google it, but it basically is an alarm system on their wrists. If the child tries to pull it off it squeals very loudly to get others attention. Only the parent or whoever knows which buttons to push can turn it off. It fairly hard to pull off, so it won't accidntly get pulled.
