I agree with SageMother. Why doesn't he go to to the gym with you. Getting up early and getting some excercise in would be good for him. When my boys work out in the morning, they're much more energetic and happier all day.

It might be hard to find ice hockey to play during the summer, but you could look into a roller-hockey or floor hockey league for him, or he could get some kids together for street hockey.
