that's how I handle it with my daughter to...she's almost six and if she gets whinny or starts acting out the first thing I do is ask her if she needs to go lay down. Of course she says no so then I let her know that mommies know that when big girls behave this way it's usually because they are very tired and or something is wrong. I give a chance to tell me if something has happended that is making her feel like acting out and if there's nothing wrong I let her know that continuing to behave this way will result in bedtime or nap time because I feel she is too sleepy to act like a big girl should, and as her mommy I know what's best for her right now
