Because those adults will eventually have children and that is when the problem begins. Not because of sexual abuse to the children, but because if those children would grow up with not clear roles of who the mother, father, and traditional family is, they would have a hard time adjusting to the rest of society.
I wish I had the name of a documentary I saw a while ago, where they interviewed adults and children who lived in those hippies communities back in the 60's. They all said it was damaging for them. Many of those children came out with severe psychological problem, and identity crisis.
All of the women who were interviewed said that it was damaging for them, and the experience lowered their self steem.
We tried those things already and it didn't work.
