Alright, I know the story I'm going to share is probably a little strange, but this honestly happened. My teacher called me and informed me that the kids were sitting at a table playing a game like "chutes and ladders" or something and the kids were trying to decide who's going to go first, second, third, etc. And apparently, there was a black kid who was wanting to play as well, and get this, the teacher says my son said to the kid, "You don't get to play because you're the nigger" Now, this really caught me offguard, I do not know where my son would learn such a word. My son says that one of his friends at school told him about the word. I just think that he didn't realize what he was doing and the effect that word can have on someone. Honestly, I don't know where I went wrong, me and my wife never make any racial comments- that's just not us, we accept people for who they are, so wherever my 8 year old son got this kind of mentality- it's beyond me. |
