Well, I don't know if an implication was meant to be implied, but he certainly has a valid point. I'd be one ticked off wife if my husband sauntered through the doors at 3 am after telling me he was only going to be hanging with the guys a few hours and leaving me to cancel my son's planned camping trip.
And seriously...what does happen at 3 am? I can pretty much guarantee she wasn't grocery shopping for milk at their local Wal-Mart.
