I just looked over the Graco Safe Seat instruction manual, and it doesn't have another position for the crotch buckle. You can adjust the hip and shoulder straps, but if your son is long torsoed that won't help much. He may be too long for the seat (torse wise) despite the fact he has yet to reach the weight limit. Shoulder straps should be at or below the shoulders when rear facing. Look in the owners manual on pages 20-23.. There are shoulder strap adjustments that can be made on the back of the seat that may help. If not, it's time to transition to a convertible car seat.
