My oldest son had allergy shots when he was younger because he was allergic to grass.

He had them every 2 weeks for about 2 years when he was 8 and 9. They did work pretty well, his allergy was really bad before the shots and he is now only mildly allergic.

This might be different than what you would get for a cat allergy, but his shots started to work gradually about 3-4 months. He didn't have any side effects and it was covered by our insurance.
