Default Death in family

My husband's exwifes grandfather (also son's great grandfather) just passed away. The ex told us she plans on taking their son to the wake/funeral herself which lasts about 4 hrs and we are fine with that. The problem is we don't know if we should attend or do something. My husbands exwife has caused alot of problems with us and we only deal with her when we have to regarding their shared son. Their son is also only 8 yrs old and would not appreciate his dad going as he himself hardly knew his great grandfather. Also my husband was not close to the grandfather. On the other hand it is his son's family. Under these circumstances what would be the proper thing to do?
