CIO might work in the immediate, but any time a new milestone is met in her life her sleep habits will change and the you will end up back at square one, that is something that a lot of parents and books don't mention about CIO. There are good books that help deal with sleep issues. Here is one sight with a good start. These take a little longer then CIO but it is an easier transition. Everyone already mentioned the other possibilities, and this might sound kinda textbooky, but I have learned all this with 7 kids. Here is the link, good luck! Elizabeth Pantley |
Wow, I know this wasn't my thread, but that's awesome! I'm going to read that whole site from head to toe because my son has always been a terror when it comes to sleeping. I'm young and he's my first so I've always had a lot of trouble with not knowing what to do with him when he doesn't want to go to bed (Every time). When he was tiny, I could rock him to sleep every night no problem, and I did. However, he did wake up several times a night. He still wakes up at night! He still EATS at night! Anyway, when he got to be like 6 months old, he started to realize I was trying to get him to sleep when I rocked him and just cried and tried to get away whenever I tried it. I've tried millions of things, like music, he has a night light, he wont let me rock him anymore... I've tried holding his hand, patting his back, reading him stories, he won't even take a bottle to bed and I've tried that even though I know doctors say not to because of bottle mouth. It's just that I'd try anything to get him to sleep without crying! He used to sleep with me, and now he wont do that anymore. He's not comfortable, I think.
If I don't let him cry, he doesn't sleep. I don't approve of CIO. I just don't know what else to do! I would try anything. I'm going to check out that site, thank you so much. I hope it gives me some ideas of new things to try.
My Aunt (mother of 7) tells me that some kids just wont go to bed without a fight... Which I can accept, but I would love it if there was any other way.
