Default Re: Discipline and Punishment

I will! We have never used spanking as a discipline method, and we don't use timeouts for that either. Time outs, in our house, apply equally to adults as well as children, and are used as a cooling off period, whether it's because of emotions or physical activity.
As far as discipline goes, when they were toddlers we used removal, redirection and repetition. If they were doing something they shouldn't, we removed them from the area, interested them in something else, and repeated as often as necessary. We used baby gates to keep them out of especially dangerous areas without doors, such as the kitchen. We kept doors to bathrooms and other people's bedrooms closed.
As they got older, we used positive discipline, and natural and logical consequences. If their dirty clothes weren't in the hamper, they didn't get washed. If they forgot to do their homework, they had to deal with the consequences from the teacher. If grades were below a C, they needed more study time, so they didn't get to spend time with friends until the grades came back up.
Any questions, feel free to ask!
