jtee, do you ask your DD's friend's parents permission for their kids to watch such movies? I would be very upset if my kids were watching R movies at houses of friends unbeknownst to me. I respect your decision concerning your child, but there are parents who think R movies are inappropriate for kids under 17.
Trina, my wife handles all details of when we have girls spend the night and she checks with the parents before hand about any of movies they watch. I believe 1-2 of the girls had seen some or all of the Scream movies. I haven't watched them in a couple of years and I can't recall why they were rated R. My wife handled it and I didn't know what they were watching until I started hearing screaming from downstairs. I could tell it wasn't real screaming like they were in trouble or hurt, just the kind girls make when they watch scary movies.

Some parents are much more restrictive than we are about movies, we do let our daughter watch R movies if we have seen them. Off hand, I can't think of a DVD movie we have we don't allow our daughter to watch. She has little interest in R movies because they don't have kids or furry animals. It probably only in the last year she has become interested in movies targeting teenagers such as the Scream movies. We have 500+ movies in our personal library and none of them are off limits to her. Most she could care less about.
