That is a tough one. I looked through my movie collection and didn't see too many stand outs. That kind of surprised me too. What is hard to find is movies that center around being a father this isn't just a comedy of guy bumbling his way though it.

Here are some movie that I think have father figures that I like:

A very good one is To Kill A mocking Bird. Atticus Finch has several good scenes with his children.

It might seem like an odd choice, but in Fiddler on the Roof, Tevye is father of 5 daughters who he loves, but struggles with Tradition vs changing times.

Two days ago on HBO I just happened to watch a good one, A Cool Dry Place.

A good one, but not well known, is One Good Cop. I really like this one a lot.

Of course, there is Krammer vs Krammer. For its time, it was good, but might seem a little dated 28+ years later.

Ladder 49 is worth watching.

Pursuit of Happiness is one that that I not seen yet, but in our Netflix cue.

Two excellent movies that you are not likely to find: Sunshine and my all time favorite Amber Waves.

On TV, my all time favorite is John Walton of The Waltons. A strong man, yet also flawed. As far am concerned, no father figure character comes close to him in terms of realism; perfectly acted by Ralph Waite. The Waltons is the best family drama ever to have been on TV.

Never cared for Michael Landon's protrayal of Pa Ingels in Little House. He was the absolute petrarch that could do no wrong.
