My parents and I had/have a pretty shaky truce, if you will. I've had to set rules about what I'm okay with them saying to or doing with my kiddos in some ways, but it's gotten a bit better over the years. One of the things that was great for me to realize was that just because we lived nearby didn't mean we had to visit frequently and I could do it on my own terms. It still makes me sad that I don't have what I hoped for and my kids don't either, but boundaries and personal mental health is more important. |
