Angry Bullying

I'm a stepmum of a 10yr old boy and i'm also a psychologist. The damage I have seen caused by schoolyard bullying is unthinkable. The amount of emotional and psychological injury that it causes is far more than most people think.

Children should be able to attend school feeling safe, secure and happy. A child's school years should be happy, inocent, carefree, and more than amazing. Children should not have to worry about being picked on, called names, emotionally tormented, or physically assaulted. Within the adult world things such as sexual harrassment, emotional abuse, domestic violence, and verbal abuse are taken very seriously. However for some reason, such things in the schoolyard are swept under the carpet and considered childs play.

Please, for the sake of all children, make sure that your child is not a victim of bullying in any way, and make sure that they do not partake in bullying others. If your child does appear to be bullied make sure that the school deals with the bullies immediately and harshly to stop them from ever doing it again.

I've seen too much damage as a result of bullying and hope that as a team, parents and schools can help to prevent it.

I agree that bullying has caused much damage to many children. The only way to stop it, is for all parents to become active in their childs life. If your child is bullied, you should go speak with the other childs parent, and vise versa. I know if my kid was bullying others, I would want someone to come to me and tell me.

That's all fine and dandy, unless that kid has learned his bullying ways from his parents. Well, I shouldn't say "his," there are girls that are every bit as much a bully as some boys.

absolutly true, unfortuantely there are many parents like that! So sad, why would you want to teach your child hate. My dd will learn that on her own eventually, not from me though.

This is my biggest fear with my two sons in school. What I have been seeing and hearing is that alot of the bullying goes on during the recess when they are outside and they have what they call recess moniters. You can bet that if my child was a bully I would be dealing with him and would want to know about it. And if my child is being bullied I would most definently be talking to the parent and the schools. And to be honest I would expect the school to be more aware of the situation if it is presented to them by a parent.
