Here's the first link I found (too tired to look for more... must .. go ..to ... bed.) Unschooling | I think you are wrong. There is NOTHING hippy about unschooling. Unschooling is simply no schooling of any kind. It's something that allows a child to not be fed with answers BEFORE they have questions, it also makes a child to take responsibility for his/her learning instead of giving in and letting info being showed down their throats as ANY kind of schooling does. It's about trusting your natural child's desire to learn and explore without it being destroyed by schooling. That is all there is. There are plenty of book in library about unschooling, plenty of info online and pretty much every state has it’s own unschooling group, so if somebody is really interested they will have no problems finding info and support. |

Children: One boy 8, twin girls 7. | Re: Gifted Kid? | | Unschooling should be labeled child abuse. Why would you not want to give your child the best structure possible? What if the parent is ignorant? This type of learning is fine if the child is going to be confined only to these groups of people because once they get out into the real world they are not going to understand the way real people are and they are going to be p.o'd Unschooling is an experiment I wouldn't chance with my children. Learning math by making a quilt??? Come on........so here's the scenerio "hey Bob wanna play poker? "no man, I can't remember the pattern to know what to bet" ummm no thanks. |

Any further discussion after you reading books and researching more on the subject. Don't want to waste a minute of my time on ignorant statements that have nothing to do with reality. |

I just wasted a minute of my life reading about unschooling. It all boils down to being politically correct. Call it whatever you want, school is school. |
