Children: 1 son | Help! Hate school and I'm a teacher! | | I am so disenchanted with the school that I work at and the school where my son goes (different districts), and I feel weird about this because I'm a teacher. I keep thinking I should be all "Rah, Rah! Sis Boom Bah!" But, instead I'm thinking "No, guys. We haven't got this right..." Any and all feedback is welcome. |

Children: Nichole | Re: Help! Hate school and I'm a teacher! | | aww I am sorry that you are feeling down. I am not going to be much help to make you feel better though. Wish I could though. The only advise I can give is to get involved with your sons school, and try to change what you don't like about yours. Public education is failing so misserably in this country, I wish I knew how to repair it. |

I work part time with Special Needs kids in the school district where I live. I used to work full time.
I think they are doing teachers a grave disservice by encouraging them to be so idealistic while they are in training. It leads to some really ineffective policies not being challenged.
Can you pin down what it is that has you in what I like to call "a state of extreme realism"? |

Children: 2 children, Debra Lyn, and Logan (Bubba) Michael. Due in July with #3 | Re: Help! Hate school and I'm a teacher! | | This is why I sad that I have to send my daughter to public school. The teachers are treated so poorly that is reflected in their work. It makes me sad that the people who are trusted to teach our children are so under paid and poorly treated. These people are incharge of educating future generations and they are basically way over worked and way under paid. I had DenraLyn in private school for preschool and was planning on her continueing her education there but whenn the child support stopped so did our plans for private schooling . I'm sorry you feel this way. What grade are you teaching? |

 | Re: Help! Hate school and I'm a teacher! | | I know how you feel. I've been teaching for 7 years and just recently resigned from the job I was in. I've told most people I'm taking a year out but I don't think I'll be going back. It wasn't even the worst school I'd ever been in (in terms of discipline anyway) - I just think the pay is awful for the amount of work that has to be done and the hassle from children, parents etc. I'm working from home now for the past 2 months and absolutely loving it. |

| Re: Help! Hate school and I'm a teacher! | | I don't know that I can give you any decent advice, I don't send my kids to public school - I homeschool. There are things that I didn't like about what the schools taught, how everyone was expected to act like little duplicates of each other, the fact that they can't even mention God. I decided that I wanted better - more - for my kids. Have you thought about homeschooling? |

Children: 3 Daughters: 5yrs, 3yrs, new baby girl born Aug. 9, 08 | Re: Help! Hate school and I'm a teacher! | | In our area we have public schools and charter schools. I am looking into sending my children to a Charter school if all works out (there is no transportation to these schools) They enroll just like public schools but the classes have less students and the testing levels decided what the teachers get paid... (I know when I was in school most my teachers just didn't care if we made it or not, they didn't get paid enough to care - I think). I think that since the pay depends on the testing levels the teachers might care a little more....
I'm not sure yet, I'm still looking into all of it....

Children: Jill born Jan 12, 1996 | Re: Help! Hate school and I'm a teacher! | | Starbuck, you need to provide more info. You have not stated what is making you unhappy.
As a parent of a child who is in a public school, I would want to know more about any teacher who is teaching children and titles their thread "Hate school and I'm a teacher!".
I am very sympathetic toward teachers because it is a very tough job for not much pay.
Any person who "hates" their current position needs to be finding another job else where. People do burn out, and when they do the quality of their work is sub-par. Teaching children should never be sub-par if a teacher has the ability to do better, but doesn't.

Children: one son, one daughter | Re: Help! Hate school and I'm a teacher! | | More info would definitely be helpful, but I'd like to point out that the quality of public schools can really vary quite wildly. I live in a different area from the one I teach and my son goes to a much better high school. It's quite depressing, actually, when I visit the campus -- I'm considering applying for a job there! |
