Lightbulb Potty Training

Can anyone give me tips on Potty Training my 2 year old. She tries so hard and then one accident discourages her. She has nasty accidents because she doesnt understand that you do both things in the potty not just peeing. Any advice?

no advise here, since mine is only 18 months. But I can tell you that most girls don't potty train till 2 1/2 or 3. I have been told that a lot of times they are emotionaly ready to potty train but not physically. Like they understand that they go on the potty, but they don't know how to tell when they have to go yet. Again I have not potty trained any children so no advise. Just hang in there and don't react to her when she goes in her undies. Just clean her up and go on. My sister said that helped when she potty trained her two. Good luck

When my daughter was about 2 she was ready to start potty training but as you know children who are potty training have lots and lots of accidents. Well I was pregnant at that time and everything made me sick, public restrooms, kitchens, cleaing messy undies .... everything, and I would be gagging when cleaning my daughter from accidents and I didn't want her to feel bad because I thought it would cause problems. I put potty training on hold untill I had her sister, she was about 2 1/2 at that time and I'll tell you I found that she had a lot less accidents and more understanding of the whole potty thing at that age even if it was only about 6 months later. Oh, and I've seen parents who get so upset when their children have accidents, I think if you are understanding about them it makes it a lot less of a struggle. Oh and my daughter was potty trained by 3 years old but she was about almost 4 by the time she was able to stay dry through the night, that part is a little harder to learn....... Good Luck, I know I wasn't much help, but just wanted to let you know we all have our problems with potty training.

I don't even consider bed wetting potty training. Its a totally physical thing that some kids can't control. My nephew is 6 and wets the bed, 30% of children still do. Believe me if he could stop himself from doing it he would. He is very self consious about it and embarressed to stay at friends houses because of it.

Your right, Kaytee I also don't consider bed wetting potty training, But I've known people who have potty trained their children and still expressed concern about bed wetting (that was way back when, when I was a nurse, before the kids). I just wanted to bring it up so all the parents know that, that part of "potty training" I would like to much rather consider it gaining blatter control, comes in time and expect to wash plenty of sheets!

yep, lol. Thats why I am so glad that my daughter is so small. She is just now wearing 9-12 month clothes as 18 months old. When it comes to night wetting, we will have no problems with either disposable, or even wearing the cloth diapers. She only wears cloth during the day.

On the bed wetting subject, my cousin and I often stayed the night with my grandmother (thats how I know about this) and we had to sleep in seperate beds because she often would wet the bed. Until she was thirteen.... And she never, ever wet herself in public or anything. It's a possibility that bed wetters just sleep very deeply?

Anywho, for boys I would say put cheerios in the toilet and make a game of it. It worked wonders for my youngest brother, now five and totally on his own.

For girls, I'm not sure. Perhaps two years old is a little too early for her, everyone's development is different. Always use pullups (:

See I have heard that using pull ups is not good. At least my sister and my one friend. lol I know not scientific data on this one. Anyways I have heard that is easier for them to think they are in diapers since the pull ups keep them dry. Where as cloth or regular undies, they feel the wetness.

My niece just turned 2 and is starting to potty train. There are good weeks and bad weeks with her. As for the pull ups she has Dora the explorer ones. She always says don't pee on Dora when you put them on her. So she understands she shouldn't wet in them. Sometimes she tells you when she has to go and other times she will not.

about the pull ups, from our experience they are hard to get on and off so I don't think they're a great training tool but they are great for the one yr old who has learned to pull the tabs on their diaper. I used them for DebraLyn just to keep her diaper on her because she could figure out how to get that one off. As far as potty training I like panties (I should probably start calling them "big boy underwear" now as Logan probably won't like the idea of panties...lol) and sticker charts
