Children: 3 total (13 - John Luke, 12 - Dylan, and 6 - Amber) | Sick and Parties | | Okay, this came up today. Our son, 12, stayed home from school today due to throwing up and a sore throat. He was after 3pm invited to go to a party for cake and ice cream at his best friends.
I want to throw a few scenarios and see what everyone's idea of how to handle would be: - If he's still sick should he be allowed to go?
- If he no longer shows any signs of being sick should he be allowed to go?
Thanks, John |

Children: Nichole | Re: Sick and Parties | | no he should not be able to go either way. If he is too sick to go to school, then he should not be going to a party. Even if he feels 100% better he can still be contagious and pass on his illness to others. Most places (daycares, church nurseries, school ect..) say at least 24 hours of NO symptoms

Sometimes sick kids will feel a lot better for 1-2 hours, then be barfing, etc worse than before. |

Children: 3 total (13 - John Luke, 12 - Dylan, and 6 - Amber) | Re: Sick and Parties | | Okay, now comes the question of how to say that to Mom who disagrees with me 100% on this. I said if he stays home sick then the only thing he's allowed to do is rest on the couch. I don't want a fight which it started as so we stopped the talk. In a way I was hoping you'd say let him go so that I would be 100% wrong on this one. |

Children: One boy 8, twin girls 7. | Re: Sick and Parties | | If it were my child he would be laying on the couch or in his room resting, no phone, nothing. If you miss school you are home for the day. If you allow him to go then whats stopping him from being "sick" and still doing what he wants? Plus....I'd hope you would protect other people's children. I'd be po'd if you brought your child to my party knowing he had been throwing up earlier. |

Children: Nichole | Re: Sick and Parties | | nope, he should not be able to go. I would be so upset if I had a party and a child came that was sick that day. You are putting the other kids at risk.
I would say that the only way to do it is to tell her (away from the child) that he should not go and why, if she disagrees I would then say, "I'm not going then, you take him and make sure that everyone there knows he was sick today so that they do not go anywhere near him or share anything with him. Plus since he was sick (puking) he should not be eating any sweets as they can cause even more stomach upset

And if a kid is sick, as Kaytee said, he should not be exposing other kids. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. People who are sick, kids or not, should not be exposing themselves to others.

I say to them: "You really need to be at home" and they respond "I have a lot of work to do".... well within a week, 25% of the people in the building come down with the same virus and can't get their work done because they are at home sick. |

Children: Nichole | Re: Sick and Parties | | I know that one Jtee, but depending where you work, they won't let you off unless you have a doctors note, and even then a lot of people miss one day and they can't pay their bills. So sometimes it just sucks! lol

Amber (6) is both of ours together and our little angle.
