it's simple: too much work!! I've been a teacher and had to bring tons of papers to grade while on vacation. I don't think it's a good excuse not to do it. But I think teachers should look for solutions and hacks on how to grade the faster. Like having students help with grading their peers books or something. Teachers have to work smarter nowadays. they get paid too little for the amount of work.

For slacker students, it's the best thing ever. For me....let's just say that once I turned in an essay that praised the virtues of Wal-mart, whilst I was supposed to write about forgiveness, and got 100 for it. =/

LOL - I heard of people inserting segments of the bible into their thesis and it went through unnoticed!

Well, that was very interesting to see all the different views on this subject. I think if a teacher is not going to grade homework then the students should be told that it is optional.

Personally, I never liked homework when I was in school.

Now that I am a parent raising my 4 children on my own I find that when my children get homework there is very little time for anything else. I wish schools would limit education to the classroom so that I could have more time with my children doing things other than homework with them and they could have more time to play and/or be with friends.

I think that for some work that hasn't been covered. It's unfair to grade it objectively because the student hasn't really learned it fairly like other lessons. But there still should be some credit given for actually completing it. That's the majority of how my classes work. But for credit to be given it must be well thought out and relevant to the work in question. lol no freebies in my school... Usually things like that aren't even worth that much so it doesn't really matter unless your grade obsessed...
