Default Calorie intake

If your child has just turned 1 year old, would you begin to watch her calorie intake? This was the advice given by a nutritionist at the supermarket. I don't know if I should believe her. I would like to take opinion about it. I am really confused about it.

Default Re: Calorie intake

Most kids of this age have a pretty good built in regulation system. They eat when they are hungry and don't eat when they're not. I wouldn't worry so much about caloric intake as making the calories count nutritionally speaking especially if your child is within the normal ranges on the growth charts and height and weight are proportional.

I wouldn't worry about calorie intake at this point, unless your child is very underweight and you want to make sure she is getting enough to eat. I found that my son went in spurts of eating tons for a few days, and then would just pick at his food for a couple of days. I finally learned to let it go. As long as he was gaining and not eating junk, I was happy. Recently, my son has been on a cracker and grapes parade. He wants grapes all the time, and wants to dip his crackers with every meal. So, we've gotten creative with all sorts of foods he can use as dip!
