 | HELP dealing with encoprisis | | Hello,
I have a 7 year old daughter. We were told about 2 months ago that she has encoprisis. Before we went to the specailist, everyone (drs, etc.) told us there was nothing wrong with her, and this was all just behavoral. I found one who helped us see a gastroentrologist.
I just dont know what to do with her. She was doing really well and coming home from school clean, now she is back to the beginning. I am pulling out my hair over this. I dont think she realizes that she smells. I have stopped tring to wash her underware, I just throw them out.
please can anyone offer advice |

| Re: HELP dealing with encoprisis | | I had never heard of this before, but after reading about it, I believe my son might have this to a degree. What we did was give him glycerine suppositories to help him go to the bathroom, and it HAS cleared things up. Now, however, I'll know what it's called if it happens again. Fiber treatment might also help to keep things moving the way they should. |

| Re: HELP dealing with encoprisis | | We went through this with my daughter and eventually discovered that the nerve endings in her digerstive system didn't work as normally as they should. For a while she had to take very heavy duty laxatives to help "clear" her system at scheduled times. I would recommend seeing a specialist and having all necessary tests done to rule out an organic cause. |

please can anyone offer advice | Have you tired eliminating dairy products?
Sometimes this helps. Using other sources of calcium, like leafy green vegetables, can also add fiber. Since you have finally found a GE that can help you, really lean on him for help. There might be studies around that she could participate in that yield good results. |

 | Re: HELP dealing with encoprisis | | My son is going to be 7 next month.........he is outgoing, on level at school, social, into sports.........just a good kid..........he also has been diagnosed with Encopresis. It affects the whole house not just them.......do we go to friends? do we go out for the day? is he having a good (clean) day at school? It affects everyone.......and because there is no easy fix it is maddening. Before being diagnosed and being able to research on my own..........I (we) yelled, cried, bribed, you name it ..........we just did not know why this was happening. I think more people need to talk about this............but it is not politically correct to talk about poop...........well everyone needs to wake up because this is happening to 3 in 100 kids...............and I as a parent feel know one understands or wants to understand why this is happening and what we are going through. I hope you find a good doctor and take it one day at time, that is what I am doing. |

Children: Nichole | Re: HELP dealing with encoprisis | | Snorflekeeper, I am so sorry that this has been hard on your family, I can't imagine having to deal with it. I also hope your son is being treated the best way that they know how. My nephew still wets the bed and he is 8. I know this is way different then what your son has, but I do know how frustrating it is for him and of course my sister and her husband. Again I know this is different in aspects, well many aspects, but all the same its the only thing close I have to come to it |
