  | Migraines | | Do any of your kids get migraines? If so, what works for them? |

| Re: Migraines | | I have a 10-year-old daughter who gets really bad migraines. Sometimes high doses of ibuprofen works but mostly just sleep and a dark room. The odd thing is that when she was much younger she used to get terrible stomaches that the doctor diagnosed as abdominal migraines. I had never heard of such a thing prior to that. |

  | Re: Migraines | | Soon my daughter will be old enough to take medicines other than ibuprofen. I worry about her taking too much of it, and supposedly some prescription stuff works better and has fewer side effects. We did try one preventative, but she was way too sleepy on it. (She gets migraines weekly. Some is related to computer screen time, but they use them at school and she needs it for homework, so I can't deny her the computer.)
At times she misses school for migraines, and at times I have to send a note to the teacher explaining that she was too ill to do homework the night before. Fortunately she's an excellent student, but she'll be in high school next year and I don't know if the faster pace will be a problem when she's unable to do her work.
Has anybody tried prescription preventatives for their teens, and if so, how well did it work? |

Butalbatol/Fioricet has been the most effective pain relief for her. It is a barbiturate mixed with acetominaphen, if I remember correctly. It has been worth any possibilites of it being habit forming or her becoming physically dependent..her being pain free is the lesser of two evils. |

Excedrin is aspirin or anothe rotc pain reliever and caffiene. It works fairly well with mild vascular distrubances but really doesn't touch a full blown migraine. |

 | Re: Migraines | | What about mild or baby aspirin, or just some sleep, but if the problem persist, you should consult your doctor |

  | Re: Migraines | | Aspirin isn't safe for anybody under the age of 19. It increases risk if Reyes Syndrome. That would include Excedrine Migraine. |
