Children: Nichole | Re: Milk | | Sirius I think what she is trying to get you to say is just some facts, small ones. Such as I can tell you to go read "What your doctor may not tell you about childhood vacconations" and leave it at that, or I could say that I read said named book and it says that most children are over vacconated and that many of those vaccines cause more harm then good.
You can do the same thing. Say this particular book says soy is harmful to young children because xyz, you should read the book it tells some very interesting things. See the difference?
Now I agree human babies were meant to drink human milk. HOWEVER sometimes that is not plausable. As much as I wish it were. Some woman are given HORRIBLE information and there fore think they can not breastfeed though they could if they would have had the right information.
Whether or not Fallon could have breastfed with the right support ( I do not know if she could or couldn't, not my place) Either way her child has to have formula. Whether any of us like it. As much as I hate the formula companies for their crappy unethical money making ways, her child NEEDS this formula NOW. Never mind the past! Thank God we have formula for her child. What would be better to give that child powdered milk subsitute and corn syrup or formula? Well I would have to say formula.
There are risks to formula but in her situation as of now it is riskier to NOT give her child soy formula then to give cows formula or homemade contraptions.
Agai nI hope i am getting my point across.
We all take risks, some more then others. The point is to take as little risk as we can. The true facts should be given and we should make our choices. |

 | Re: Milk | | Kayte: I understand and will try to do so in the future. As for vaccines, I have read much on it too. It is my understanding that most, if not all, have mercury in them. Oneof the most harmfull substances to our bodies. However, as stated, I will try to bring you some information from the books in future postings. Regards Terry |

Children: Nichole | Re: Milk | | thank you, much appreciated.
Not all of them have mercury in them anymore. Some still do though yes. Some in trace amounts but.. still too much in my opinion. |

Children: 2 children, Debra Lyn, and Logan (Bubba) Michael. Due in July with #3 | Re: Milk | | I wasn't able to breastfeed my children because my body, also my mother's and my sister's were not able to produce milk for whatever reason. Even with drugs to produce breast milk it was not possible. Not that I think you are saying I'm wrong, I just wanted to get it out there that even with the best support it just isn't an opition for some women. I personally wish to God I was able to, and prayed that they were wrong after my dd was born and that something had changed in me when ds was born. that wasn't the case but I feel my children are in great health. other than that I use CDs, homemade babyfood, feed me dd very healthy food, try my best to stay away from meds, and use natural remedies whenevr possible |

Children: Nichole | Re: Milk | | And I will believe you that you are one of the few who truly can't. Again not my place to decide how hard you tried or didn't, ya know?
I am sure you are doing all you can to give your children the best and healthiest life YOU can. That is what a good parent does. |

 Children: 2 boys & 1 girl - ages 14, 11, 8 | Re: Milk | | Fallon,
I can tell you the little I know about the concerns of soy. I know that the natural estrogens in soy, that are promoted so highly in soy products for women (Quakers oatmeal even has a specialty oatmeal for healthy women, because of its inclusion of soy), are a possible risk to growing girls.
Some worry that all that extra estrogen is wreaking havoc with the hormonal development of young and maturing girls. Ive also read that the type of soy, and the way its processed, isn't as great as the type of soy that is eaten in asian countries - and that the hype over here is misplaced as a result.
So thats the buzz I know about.
That said, my husband is a huge soy fan, and consumes a lot of it. I'm allergic, along with my eldest - and for the concerns listed above, we don't let our daughter have much.
We watched the movie The Corporation a year or two ago, and that convinced us to go off of regular cows milk. We only consume organic milk and butter now. We couldn't really afford it either, but we make do anyway. We'd love to go all organic, but I figure baby steps are the only way to make solid change like that.
Back to Sage's original question, though - other unconventional dietary choices we've made are:
Low sugar family - no candy, no soda, no sugar cereals (cheerios is the most sugar we allow), no sugar snacks (no doritos), occasional baked goods and holiday treats (we have to fight the schools about this *constantly*!!)
NO sugar substitutes!!!!
No flouride - we drink and cook with spring water instead
Minimal trans fats - my husband has been on this for the last 7 years
Only organic dairy
Always whole grains
Minimal juice, and then only 100% juice - the kids drink mainly water, we always have tons stocked
My husband makes killer smoothies (no sugar - and added yogurt for protein) and homemade popcorn made with olive oil as snacks. (now I'm just bragging)
No vaccines (not a dietary choice, but thrown in for good measure)
Now, we aren't saints. We still enjoy the occasional trip to McDonalds, frozen corn dogs, going out to eat, and so on. I think, though, that with the ways that we do balance our eating choices, that we're raising pretty healthy kids. Its certainly something I feel rather proud of. |

While soy formula was a must for dd she no longer has soy in her diet because of the concerns you talked about, thing is it was the only formula that her and ds could hold down, luckly she out grew her stomach issues and I'm sure ds will too |

Children: Nichole | Re: Milk | | Tau- what you are doing sounds like a very good way of living. You are doing your best to give your children a good healthy diet, but still allow some things on occassioon. To me that is wonderful.
You are right vaccinations are not dietary but they do have to do with chemicals we put in our body.
I use flouride toothpaste, but we do not give it to Nichole. Of course she is still young, but we will not give her flouride for quite a few years. |

I am glad they make soy formula for children like yours. Soy is not best but some times it is better then the alternative. |
