Unhappy My daughter is overweight

Hi, I need help. My 7 year old is overweight. We are very active, however, she is in the 10th percentile for hight. We eat healthy at home, but when she goes to her dads (he is a good dad so don't get me wrong), well him and his girlfriend (who I also like) doesn't feed them that great. They don't have a lot of money to buy heath food, so they get a lot of corn dogs and such. I have talked to him about this before, but I understand with 4 kids (he has two) they can't spend that kind of money. I have tried to send food with, but she feels odd when she is eating something different then they are. I don't know what else to do. They get candy only on holidays and we don't have sugar in the house. It makes me said to see her like this. I don't say anything bad to her about it, but she will sit and talk to me. it's hard to listen to my 7 year old feel the way she does. She has lots of friends at school, but some tease her.
Do you have any advise.

Hi,

I understand your frustrations. Though, it could not be your daughters fault. By the way you are speaking, it seams that she is a relatively healthy girl. She shouldn't be overweight if that is the case. She may have a thyroid or hormonal problem. A few of the children that i work with have that problem, and supplements and treatments can easily fix that problem. If not, really try to get her active!! Best luck!

Yay I kinda agree. Junk food is fine on occassion. If her main diet is healthy, corn dogs should not make a difference. I would check how active she is, but what do you mean by "active" is she actually running around playing Tag everyday. Maybe a child fitness program at the YMCA or something like that might help. If she is active like that and still is overweight, I would talk to her doc.

She is always riding her bike, and yes both my kids are always running around the house (outside) and at the park. They do play tag a lot, and i play it with them. Kylie has been loosing a little bit, but I think it's because she just had a growth spurt. She hate the way she looks, and it's so hard, because we are doing all we can and tell her how beautiful she is every day.
I will ask the doctors about the thyroid. we do have an issue with that in our family.

Thank you both.
