 | Re: why you SHOULD circumcise | | Quote: There are a variety of reasons why parents choose circumcision.Medical benefits, including A slightly lower risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs). A circumcised infant boy has about a 1 in 1,000 chance of developing a UTI in the first year of life; an uncircumcised infant boy has about a 1 in 100 chance of developing a UTI in the first year of life. A lower risk of getting cancer of the penis. However, this type of cancer is very rare in all males. A slightly lower risk of getting sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Prevention of foreskin infections. Prevention of phimosis, a condition in uncircumcised males that makes foreskin retraction impossible. Easier genital hygiene.
Social reasons. Many parents choose to have it done because "all the other men in the family" had it done or because they do not want their sons to feel "different." Religious or cultural reasons. Some groups such as followers of the Jewish and Islamic faiths practice circumcision for religious and cultural reasons. |

Children: 2 children, Debra Lyn, and Logan (Bubba) Michael | Re: why you SHOULD circumcise | | this issue is ridiculous to debate...it's not your bussiness why my son isn't circ'd anymore then it's my bussiness why your son is. Parents will fight to death on things like this and vaxing and really all it comes down to is that we should be able to make our OWN choices and not be judged harshly on them. Whether you do or don't should determine what kind of parent you are and I think things like this just end up in fights and hurt feelings

Children: 1 3-year-old boy | Re: why you SHOULD circumcise | | I got my son done - my high school boyfriend was from Italy, where circumsicion is not routine. And it was a topic of conversation with guys who shared the locker room with him. I even got asked some questions that were nobody's freaking business.
It's a bit different now, but I definately didn't want my kid dealing with that kind of BS |

Circumcision is first mentioned in the Bible in connection with God's promise to make Abraham's descendants a great nation and to give them a land they could call their own. In return, Abraham and his descendants were to obey God. To show that they were keeping their promise to God, every male descendant of Abraham was to be circumcised (Gen 17.1-14).
