Default Any workaholics here?

My DH is a workaholic. Don't get me wrong. I'm very thankful his successful career has enabled me to stay home to raise our kids, but sometimes it totally sucks.

*waves hand*

My husband has worked 16 hour days since Oliver was born. It totally sucks but I know it's the only way that I can stay home with Oliver.

Gets lonely, doesn't it?! The thing is, my DH is on salary, so he doesn't get paid extra for working more hours. He averages 80 a week, and close to 100 during busy times. He has always been this way. I'm used to it, but sometimes it bums me out, especially when the kids call him on it.

I bought him a plaque and hung it above his desk. It was there for a week before he noticed it.

That's a great saying!

It does get lonely. My husband gets 100% commission which totally sucks because somedays he makes good money and some days he doesn't make any money. He doesn't have any guarantee pay.

Not that would totally stink! To work all those hours and not get paid. Yikes!

*raises hand* ... Hello ... Im a workaholic...

Theres many reasons for it ... and its hard to get past ... At one point I was working 120 hrs per week, shifts so long that the average person couldnt even fathom (43 hrs was longest).. all to a better gain .... or was it?
I made as much in 1 month as the average income made in a year ... paid taxes through my @ss... and in the end.. I lost .. I didnt gain...

I lost time with my family... time with my children... days at school ... and life in general...
On the plus side it helped get me to a position that Im in today where I set my own hours ... but if I had only known that goal 20 years ago... as thats how long it took me to break this cycle.

Now I take time off when I need to... I sit and do morning reading with my daughters grade 2 class ... I take her to the beach more often ... I wake up to a "Good morning daddy" and I get to read a story at bed time.

There IS a balance ... but it can be hard to find

Thanks for the support, everyone. Sorry to be a whiner. I was not feeling well last night. I'm usually very supportive concerning DH's work. This isn't anything new. We have been happily married almost 20 yrs., and DH has always been a workaholic. My only complaint. His father was an alcoholic, and DH did NOT want to follow those foot steps, so my theory is that he has channeled those inherited traits into his career. Yes, that's a good thing, and I'm very grateful we're financially comfortable and I'm able to stay home, but sometimes it really does suck. He doesn't have to work so much, but he feels the need to. He's 44 and has yet to find a good balance. He just informed me of the possibility of taking on more responsibilities. As if he has time! Argh.

My husband is to and that's part of the reason he doesn't live here. He is so into his job and we come last Can't complain though.
