Children: DD (10) and DS (12) | evilbrent | | Out of curiousity, I priced HUT milk in my area. My grocery store has a very limited supply, not even enough to supply my family with a weeks worth of milk. 1 quart for $2.33 or three half pints for $3.29. A gallon (4 quarts) of regular milk cost about $4.80 at this particular store, but I can get it at another store for $3.20. HUT is more expensive here, and not popular.
I assume it's cheaper and readily available down under? |

my own thread.
yeah. that's weird. here, UHT it literally half the price, and there's buckets and buckets of the stuff.
Why on earth would it be more expensive? That makes no sense at all to me.
Think about it, the main cost of milk is transporting it, storing it and selling it while it's still fresh - and keeping it cold for the entire time. That's a LOT of refrigeration.
UHT doesn't need to be kept cold, so it can be transported in a normal old truck, and can just go straight on the shelf alongside the pasta.
that's weird.

'get away with' makes it seem like they don't have an obligation to make as much profit as they can... but yeah, that makes sense. Cost is driven by the supply chain, but price is always what the market wants to pay.

It's basically milk that you don't have to keep in the fridge.

Children: 4yo girl 1yo boy | Re: evilbrent | | I have never heard of that. Intresting. Does it taste the same? We pay about $3.55 for a gallon of milk in AZ. Thats outrageous to me.
Also I've heard about "cloning" milk? WTF? That cant be totally safe can it?

uh... gosh, it must be nice living in america... UHT is about $1.20 / litre - which works out to $4.50 per gallon... and UHT is half the price of regular milk.

I must climb back under my rock because you are just freaking me out now. Your saying about $9.00 for ONE GALLON of regular cow milk. I can't even wrap my head around that. What are you paying for gas? Unleaded was $3.79 last I looked.
