Default Family Fun Night

Does anyone have a Family Fun Night, where everyone in the family gets together to either play games or watch a movie together? We used to do that when I was a kid, but it could happen any time, it wasn't planned for any one day. I'm thinking about starting something like this with my family, but my kids are a couple of years apart. I'm not sure if I can find any games that they can both play, and won'd bore my husband and I to pieces. My kids are 9 and 6. My 6yo is just learning to read, so we'd have to help him with any reading.

Do you have any suggestions for games we could all play?

We do this every once in a while. Our kids are 10 and 4 so we have similar problems with finding a game. We tend to team up if we're playing a more difficult game. One of the ones everyone seems to like is Uno. Also there are some nice kid's versions of Trivial Pursuit that work well. We're thinking about getting a version of Dance Dance Revolution to try.

I've not heard of Dance Dance Revolution. What is it? It sounds like it would be more physical than board games. Where would you find it?

Dance Dance is a neat game that kind of gets kids going physically. It works on some game systems and there's also software for computers. You have to have a dance mat which has different squares and so forth on it. The kids (and you!) follow the program and have to dance with it. It makes neat images on the screen and my kids love to dance. I also feel like it's good for them to see the adults let their guard down a little bit.

We do this every Friday evening while we wait for the footy (Rugby League) to start. We usually play monopoly or a great game called Labaryth. Which is great for all ages. Our youngest is 5 and oldest is 14 and hubby and I also love it.

We have been having "Family Nights" for the past 12 months, when the kids have friends sleep over their friends think it is great!

Games we play are

Monopoly (teams)
Labaryth
Uno Attack
Friends Scene it (we are friends mad so even the kids know 90% of the answers
Buzz Junior on the PS2 is also a great game..
Snakes and Ladders 3D

And of course

SINGSTAR

We actually just started doing this not to long ago. We all have a blast. We usually play a boardgame of some kind. Twister has been one of our favorites lately. Sometimes we will pop popcorn and watch a movie. Best thing we have ever done is make a night like this.

We do Saturday mornings. We all go out to breakfast as a family, and then spend a couple of hours at the zoo or the botanical garden or the park, or anywhere else fun. Then we come home around lunchtime and still have a lot of the day to get other stuff accomplished! This has fit into our schedule much more easily than trying to fit SOMETHING MORE into our already complicated, hectic workweek.
