Children: Jill born Jan 12, 1996 | Re: Family Guy | | We have the TiVo setup to record it and I enjoy watching it. Our 12 year old daughter (and her 6th grade friends) love it because of all mature sexual references it contains.
This actually brings up an interesting issue. Our parenting approach is not to block our daughter from watching sexual content in shows. If a show has sexual language or content, we let her watch it. The issue that we have is her friends come over sometimes because they can watch shows like Family Guy recorded on our TiVo, and 1-2 come homes that I suspect might not let them watch shows that have sexual content. So far it is not an issue because no parent has called to complain that we exposing their daughter to TV shows that are banned in their home. At the same time, we can't know the rules and expectations of every family. Not that we wouldn't be respectful of their wishes, we just don't go out of our way to investigate the expections of other parents for every child who comes to visit. |

If I found out she was watching it at a friend's house I wouldn't be mad - I would just tell the parents I prefer that she not watch it. Only if they let her anyways would I be angry - and then there would be no more going to that friends house.

Children: 4 yr old goof ball | Re: Family Guy | | It is my favorite animated show..well it is probably tied with South Park.
They are both very misunderstood. Granted they both do have some crass moments, and are prone to show a bit of voilence but they both have very intelligent themes, Southpark more than FG.
I love FG's pop culture references, and I really like the fact that both shows are no hold's bar. They rag on everyone equally. They remind us that life is short and to not take ourselfs so seriously.
We let DD watch a few episodes but found ourselfs cringing durring the voilent scenes so now it is an after bedtime show.
