Smile Family History Search

I am trying so hard to find pubic information (for free) online to see like death certificates (stuff like that). I knew a site years ago but when I was younger didn't really see a need for it.. Now I want to find out stuff about my family and I can't seem to get anywhere.

My grandmother (my dads mom) died when he was less than a year there were 9 or more children and his Dad could not raise them all... He kept the twins and all the other kids went to relitives and people who knew the family. I just wish I could find information on my grandmother but I can't seem to get anywhere.

Anyone know of any sites I could look at. (I don't have much $ and no credit card so paying for the informaiton is out of the question --- plus I don't know if i want to pay and they not give me the right information). I'm a sceptic!...LOL...

I am so sorry that you are unable to find the info you want. I don't know of any sites, but my husband and his sister were trying to find out info on their grandma, who died when their dad was little. They found newspaper articles and stuff like that. You may want to look at the cities newspaper (whereever they were at the time) and try to look at archives. You may have to go to the library for htat or contact the newspapers themselves

It might be a bit of a long shot but ... ancestry.com allows you to fill in as much of your family tree as you know. You can make this information public and this is where the cool part comes in ... if names in your tree match up with other names other users have entered in their trees, it will allow you to link family trees. I had a name match on my maternal grandfather's name but it was not the same person. However as the site grows and gets more data, the more likely you'll be to get a match sometime in the future.

If you find sites with free public document searches, please post back here too.

I'm still in search, but I did find out some places I should have thought to look but didn't. I just want to post them in case someone else is looking for their family history.
- Church records.
- The Library that Kaytee brought up (here in Albuquerque NM we have a Special Collections Library where you can add your family history you know to the records they keep. Also you can search all the records they have dating back to when this town first started).

I haven't found much information yet but I'm on my way... Anymore suggestions would be great... I know i'm still missing something!
