Would you rather read one long post with all of the details about somebodies issue/issues or would you rather get a brief synopsis and then get the rest as the conversation unfolds.

Honestly I don't usually read long posts especially if I don't know the person. I just can't pay attention for that long. Maye it's the ADD (seriously I'm not just making a joke). I have posted a couple of long one but I just couldn't figure out how to make them shorter. I would rather give you a little bit then answer your questions. I figure this way you get the info you want/need and not the rest of the junk that I might otherwise give you.

I feel bad about it but it's the truth.

So what style do you prefer and do you read long posts?

I prefer your way. Give me the short and sweet version and if I have questions, I'll ask.

Ya me too....short and sweet is the way I likes it. Too long and I may skim or move on.

I think it depends more on whether you've made your presence known.... if someone has got literally 1 post, and an intricate and unlikely 'problem'... then I personally think of them as a troll. I wonder why people go to all that trouble - I've NEVER sat down at a pc and thought "I'm bored what will I do? I know - I'll visit some random forum and spend 30 minutes typing up a problem so as to stir debate in the hopes that I waste more than 30 minutes of some strangers' time."

On the other hand - if you're not a troll - I think the answer is: take as much time as you need. There's a difference between babbling / providing too much detail on the one hand and giving enough detail to understand a truly complicated issue.

I don't personally read that many long posts - but then one might grab my attention and I'll give it some thought and a response.

I think the key thing is that you communicate what you want - if it's a long post you need to finish it with a specific question.

I think of them as a troll as well but I usually read those. Even though they are not helpful they are usually interesting. So I read them then report them and move on.

I read the first paragraph pr two of almost every post, even the long ones but if there is a lot of babbling about mundane details then I usually stop and move on. Unless they are really long then I usually don't even try because I know that I'll drift off and answer the problem incorrectly because I missed some important details.
