PeeWee is my first crate trained dog. I always thought it was mean, but someone brought up that if he needs to go spend a night at the vet or something a very large dog freaking out in a very small space could be a very bad thing.
He goes in there on his own to nap now. It's his comfy safe place.

I have crate trained before, just seems like 12 hours would be a long time. Then again I guess 8 hours or so at night is about the same huh?

My pit, Brick loved her crate... she had one of those giant ones and it was her room.

Heh..I like the brindle one

I don't feel bad crating my dogs. They love their crates..and go in them to nap during the day with the door open. My rules are the crate is never used for punishment, and is only a positive place. I started off with them as pups feeding them in their crates and randomly throwing treats in there for them to find. I feel a lot safer with them in their crates especially in an emergency they are located right next to the front door and I can get them out of the house FAST if anything happens.

Honestly the pup will probably sleep the whole time..on the couch or in the crate doesn't really make a difference to me and you know it can't eat anything dangerous in the crate, LOL

I'm wearing a pair of shoes right now that our last puppy chewed on.

This is what Brika used to have... I was even able to get in there and snuggle with her. This would be like their own wing of the house for a pup huh?

Why not crates? I trust my older dog outside of the crate but both pups are crated when we leave the house. You also stated earlier that your mom is home with them all day-that makes a difference. Honestly I just feel safer when them in their crates. In an emergency they are easy to locate and remove (try calling a scared pooch out from under the bed in the middle of a fire..yeah right LOL) and I don't have to worry about them getting hurt or shot if someone breaks into my house and gets attacked.
