Children: 4 yr old goof ball | If u could go back in time? | | If you could go back to a certain age and re-live your life from that point knowing everything that you know now, would you? I know that is a hard question because everyone has things they regret, but most of us are very happy with where we are. You would have to essentially sacrifice everything you've accomplished but would almost be guaranteed more by being wise beyond your time. The easy answer is to simply so no, because I can't imagine my life without my current spouse and children but the odds are against you not meeting someone else that you fall in love with and have kids with in your new time line. For example if I were to go back to when I was 16 I would have not been arrested for having sex with my g/f in public(lol..sigh), I would have tried harder in school, I would have chose to go to Univ. instead of working full time, I would have done my best to stay single, I would have waited to have children until I had a good career established, and just those choices alone would theoretically give me a better present. This of course doesn't take into account all the things that could go horribly wrong as a result of my new decisions. Last night I woke up around 3am and couldn't get the thought out of my head. Then I started thinking about how I could track down and meet the Mrs. if I were to have a different time line. We are soul mates but that is because we are who we are and I would be someone different. I wouldn't have had a previous marriage, we wouldn't have daugthers of the same age in common, and we wouldn't have worked togather for over a year before we became involved. I can't imagine my life without my wife, daughter, and step-daughter but the temptation would be there if given the opportunity.

I think my experiences are what have made me into who I am today. I could, however, have lived without being with my ex-husband. Just give me the kids, let him be erased out of my past.

Joking...
I'm sure I would choose not to go back. I just thought it might be an interesting topic to discuss but it seems that it is a no brainer.

Children: 4 Year Old Daughter | Re: If u could go back in time? | | In my high school psychology class the teacher asked us if we felt that we grew up too fast and would you change it. My answer was - yes, but I wouldn't change it because it created the person that I now am.

I'm currently dealing with some hard times related to my X and that is probably what is putting thoughts like that in my head.
Once everything is said and done I'm sure we will have a happily ever after.

After 3 very hard yrs and a few hard yrs before I left, I still would never go back in time, not being with him means not having my daughter...not having my daughter means I would still be a total mess of a person which would mean Ryan and I would have never fallen in love and Logan wouldn't be here. Although there are plenty of things I wish never would have happened I would be afriad to change any of it

Children: Jill born Jan 12, 1996 | Re: If u could go back in time? | | Good thread GW.
I recommend people watch the movie Groundhog Day. Most people have seen it, and for the most part consider it a fun\light comedy, but it is one of those movies that is based on more serious ideas, and underneath there is an intent to communicate those ideas through comedy. Bill Murray wakes up, and relives the same day over and over, repeating the same mistakes despite knowing exactly what happens every day. Slowly it begins to dawn on him how escape the never ending loop.
We all know people that continually bash their head against the same wall, day after day, yet remain clueless that they continue to make the exact same bad choices. Maybe they go from one bad relationship to the next because they select very similar bad partners each time, or exit the relationship when a fresher face comes along. No matter how obvious their mistakes are to friends\family, and maybe some what aware themselves, they repeat the same bad choices time after time.
The trick is not the obvious the mistakes of others, but what we privately ignore about ourselves, and continue to do despite the fact certian decisions clearly have been a bad choice the past 100 times. How many times do you have to touch the hot burner before you decide you have had enough? For most people once is enough (or never, the mistake is too obvious), but depending on the hot burner issue, there are always handful of people who need to touch the hot burner many times before they too have had enough. |
