Children: Jill born Jan 12, 1996 | Halloween Movies | | A good halloween movie for this year is the most recent DVD release of stephen King's 1408.
Our daughter favorites are Wes Craven's Scream trilogy. Her and friends watched all three of them recently at a sleep over. Nothing like several 11-12 years old screaming every few minutes.
The scream movies are not true horror movies, they are just as much fun as they are horror, so 11-12 year olds really don't get too scaried, it just gives them reason to scream just for the fun of it. |

Children: DD (10) and DS (12) | Re: Movie Talk | | The Scream movies are rated R. Neither of my kids (9 & 11) will be seeing them any time soon.
jtee, do you ask your DD's friend's parents permission for their kids to watch such movies? I would be very upset if my kids were watching R movies at houses of friends unbeknownst to me. I respect your decision concerning your child, but there are parents who think R movies are inappropriate for kids under 17. |

Children: Nichole | Re: Movie Talk | | I don't remember what the scream movies had in them so I don't know appropriate they are, but yay I have to agree that SOME R movies are not appropriate, while others it depends on the kid.
My sister took her 8 year old son to go see Harry Potter (first one he saw in the theater) it is PG_13, but she went first to make sure she felt it was ok for him to watch it. He LOVED it. |

Children: DD (10) and DS (12) | Re: Movie Talk | | I've read all the Harry Potter books, seen most of the movies and enjoyed them all. My kids have seen the first two movies, but that's it. The 3rd movie (Prisoner of Azkaban - PG) would scare the crap out of them, so we have not allowed them to see it. They haven't seen the others simply because they are PG-13, and I know they are too scary for my kids.
The rule in our house is that you have to be at least 13 to see PG-13 movies. R movies are absolutely not an option. Yes, we are strict in this area, but we know our kids and feel these movies are not appropriate for them. |

Children: 2 children, Debra Lyn, and Logan (Bubba) Michael | Re: Movie Talk | | My dd is 4 (5 in 2 weeks) and she's seen the first 2 Harry Potter recently, but she'll have to wait on the rest. I'm a big Harry Potter fan but after the 2nd one they get a little to grown up for her. The Scream movies are scary but they aren't really over the top, but like Kaytee said it really depends on the kids.

Children: Nichole | Re: Movie Talk | | yay, she wasn't sure if he was ready, but he saw all the others at that point. Now her daughter is 6 and has not seen the new one yet.
OH about the Goblet of Fire: she was most concerned about that one. He is a VERY sensitive little boy and the whole Cedric dying part, but he handles it well.
He also is a huge Star Wars fan and she had to wait a while for him to see the last one of them, or the 3rd one, however you look at it lol |

Children: DD (10) and DS (12) | Re: Movie Talk | | I totally agree it depends on each child. My two are sensitive and scare easily. For example, remember when the Thomas the Magic Railroad movie came out in 2000? DS was a huge Thomas fan at the time (age 4). He saw this movie (rated G) and had nightmares about the evil engine for months. LOL! I can laugh now, but it was not funny at the time. DD is the same way.
Because I know kids differ and parents have different feelings regarding movies, if my kids have friends over we either stick with G movies to be safe, or I will talk with the parents and ask for their permission concerning other movies. |

Children: One boy, Bradley | Re: Movie Talk | | I just rented 1498. I thought it started off really well...built up a lot of anticipation once John Cusak got into the room. And then it just went downhill...very predictable and random.
Audition is a fantastic horror movie for Halloween. It's been out for a while, so maybe most of you have seen it...but it's exteremly well done...very disturbing! |
