Children: Xander is 4, McKenzie is 3 months! | Re: Randomness | | Get over it people, it was -60 (thats right, MINUS) here a few nights ago, and I was delivering pizzas! And that day, when it was like -40, Zander wouldnt get into his booster, and I was stuck standing there behind his mom for about 5 minutes with no gloves or hat on. My ears hurt all night!

Children: Jill born Jan 12, 1996 | Re: Randomness | | SpitNCobra, That is cold!!!
I remember being in my late teens\early 20s working hard for almost no money and having to do it in extremely cold\bad weather conditions in Anchorage AK. The thing was at the time, I didn't think about it, I just did it. I'd walk 2 miles to work in subzero weather at 4am. Now, as I looked back, I can't believe I worked so hard for so little money. No regrets, just amazed I did it. |

I'm working from home today so of course she is complaining she is bored despite the 8 million toys she just got for her birthday last week. |

Kids want to play with parents, not toys. :-)

Children: Hannah, age 6 | Re: Randomness | | Yes I am aware. I have to balance things though, so I will probably work for a little bit, and then play with her for a little bit, and so on.
As much as it is important for us to play together, it is also important that she use her imagination to entertain herself at times. |

Is she your only child?
If so...I'm quite sure she's spends way more than enough time using her imagination from our conversations today. |

Children: Hannah, age 6 | Re: Randomness | | Yes, she is my only child. But your accusations are not fair, Fooser. You are not a member of my household, and you have no idea how much time we spend together. Also, just because I am the mom doesn't mean she has to be attached to me like glue. There is another parent here, you know. He may suck at picking up after himself, but he is awesome at Disney Monopoly.
Also, she is 6, not 2. She does not need me to entertain her all day. Kids that are entertained all day long have no need to develop their imagination or creative thinking skills. Kids SHOULD complain of boredom at times. It is what encourages them to think of new things to do. |

You're right. I'm not a member of your family...so I don't know.
It just sounds like you are gone all day working, and even when you're at home, she's still playing by herself. :-P
This always makes me think of parents who just buy their kids 6 billion toys out of some kind of guilt or something. Like...they aren't playing an active enough role in their kid's childhood...so they just buy them toys and things to pacify them. Like...it's much easier to take a kid to Toy's R Us and let them pick out a toy than it is to play with them at the park.
Anyway...that's a tangent for another time. |

Children: Hannah, age 6 | Re: Randomness | | Well that is not me at all. today is a little different because I am working from home and she is here, but most of the time as soon as we get home we are spending time together. And like I said, it is different because she is school-aged. regardless of whether I work she is gone all day anyways.
And FYI, the 8 million toys came from her birthday party, not me. I got her horseback riding lessons for her birthday, which is an activity we will do together. So there. :-P |
