Children: 4 Year Old Daughter | Temps Force Early Dismissals For Second Day | | The Northerners may laugh at us, Southerners for closing down for a little icy weather, but.... HARTFORD, Conn. -- Scores of schools statewide are closing early for a second consecutive day as a heat wave lingers and weather forecasters predict potential record-breaking temperatures. Channel 3 Early Warning Weather Meteorologist Darren Sweeney reported that temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90s in the afternoon, but that the heat index values could reach 105 degrees. The heat wave is stretching into its fourth day and is expected to break early Wednesday. Weather watchers said there's also a good chance that Connecticut could break the 97-degree record high set for this date in 1974. A state Department of Education spokesman said most school buildings in Connecticut are not air-conditioned. State law lets local districts shorten school on any given day, on a case-by-case basis. School systems in Farmington, Hartford, New Britain and dozens of other towns have called early dismissals. The heat wave prompted Gov. M. Jodi Rell to urge residents and businesses on Tuesday to cut their power use as much as possible to avoid overloading the region's electricity grid. Rell has also asked all state agencies to conserve power. Temps Force Early Dismissals For Second Day - Health News Story - WFSB Hartford

It rarely gets that hot here, so AC isn't cost effective. |

Now living in Texas for over 16 years, I would never be without AC, ours broke on 4th of July weekend a few years back, and we had to go stay with the in-laws, until it was fixed.

Knox County kids go to school about a week and a half after they normally start back. Parents have been complaining that early August is too hot for the kids to study. Pfft...the schools have air conditioners. Get over it.
