Children: One boy 8, twin girls 7.
Default Trina

I have a question for ya. When do I get rid of the booster seats in the car? All three of my children are very tall but hardly weigh anything. They are 7,6,6 almost 8,7,7. I think my girls are around 50 pounds but are very tall. I want them to be safe so I have them all sitting in booster seats. When do I know when its time to get rid of the booster seats?
Without the booster seats the seatbelt hits them right where it should and not on their neck.
I just wondered if you know when I should make the switch? Thanks.

Kids are safest in boosters until at least 4'9" and can pass the 5 Step Test.

This is a tough topic. My daughter is also small. It depends on the law for your state. It varies from location to location.

Here is the link of state by state carseat and booster laws.

Actually, it's best to follow current safety recommendations put out by safety experts. Unfortunately, not all child restraint laws coincide with current recommendations. It's not about laws, it's about lives. Just because something is "legal" does not necessarily mean it's "safe". The laws of physics will always over ride the laws of man. State child restraint laws are listed here. As you can see they vary A LOT.

not stupid you, most parents think if the law says its ok then it is safe, and that is just not the case.
My dd was rear facing till 2 years old. I don't regret it at all, I know she was safer that way.

To echo Kaytee, not stupid you. A common misconception is that as long as parents follow the child restraint laws their kids will be safe. As a CPS Tech, I spend a lot of time on this.
