Children: Savannah and Hunter | Hey, Im a newbie | | Hey, everyone! I'm Trevor and I currently live in Lafayette Hill, a suburb of Philadelphia, with my partner Nate. We're currently expecting our first child (or children) via surrogacy.
I suppose I should tell a little more about us. We met in 2004 when I was a freshman and he was a resident. We've been pretty much together since then. The only time we were apart was the fall of 2005 after Hurricane Katrina hit. I ended up going to Harvard for the semester and he went to Houston, TX. Nate is in the second year of his pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He's pretty much become the resident pediatrician in the neighborhood we live in.
Currently, I'm a design consultant and an assistant project manager for a home builder. However, I'll be leaving my job in December because of the forthcoming baby (or babies ) and because I'm getting my masters so that I can teach. |

Children: Savannah and Hunter | Re: Hey, Im a newbie | | Thanks for the well wishes. Our surrogate, Victoria, is one month (maybe one more week) pregnant. The doctor informed us that at the least, we can expect 2 so I don't know why I keep thinking that there is going to be one. But until I see and hear an ultrasound with multiple heartbeats, I'm going to think singularly. We're having an ultrasound done Wednesday so you guys will know as soon as I do. So, in theory we should be expecting our baby (or babies!) somewhere around April.
Yeah, we're professionals. And ironically, I started college with the intention of attending medical school. My father is an anesthesiologist and his dad was a doctor as was his dad, so I come from a medical family. I'm getting my masters to teach, but right around the time that I'll be graduating, we'll also be new parents so I'm going to have to put my career on hold.
Initially, we planned on having one baby and then adding others later. But with the nature of in vitro, it made more sense for us to try to fertilize more than one egg at a time. With the way we are doing in vitro the chance of multiples is virtually a given. I'm excited, but at the same time, I'm nervous. I would want my parents to be here.
I have to say, I totally have the urge to buy baby furniture. I've been on www.poshtots.com every single day since she told us she was pregnant. |

Well I hope you jump on in and start posting away!!!
So you say that you will put your career on hold, is that mean you will be a SAH dad? Definately check into local resources if it is. I am sure there are other dads at home in your area. |

Children: Savannah and Hunter | Re: Hey, Im a newbie | | Yes, I'm going to be a SAHD. I just would personally like to be the one to pick my kids up from Kindergarten or what have you. I didn't have that as a kid. My parents basically were not around until I started middle school and then they got divorced. So, a lot of my desire to be at home is attributed to that. Besides that, I'm completely OCD when it comes to cleaning and the organization of my home. I load my dishwasher a particular way. I fold my towels a specific way. The DVDs are organized alphabetically. I know I have a problem, but I can't help it.
I'm biracial and I've found that my mom's (African American) family is REALLY superstitious. I mentioned to my aunt that I was going to buy a certain crib and she was like, "NO, that's bad luck boy!." She literally screamed it at me.
So, am I supposed to wait until Feb/March before I buy the crib or like is it okay to buy furniture now? See, I'm still thinking in the singular! My desire to plan everything to the T is telling me that I need to start now. It's sort of like Father of the Bride II, when they had Franc design a nursery. The ideas are just bouncing around in my head. |

It's so hard to wait but I find for me it helps to start planning on paper or making a scrapbook of things I want. When I was preg with dd I planned the whole nursery out on graph paper so when it came time DH would know exactly where I wanted everything. I am also a bit OCD
