Markalang, just curious, why did you join this forum just to quote a book? Do you even have any kids?
Ok, now I see how I've confused things. First, the "brat" reference was to another post, not to the quote that I posted (it was in the title of that other post). I was just amazed that a situation could get so bad that the methods in that other post would need to be employed, but I guess it could happen. Secondly, I did not write a book, and I'm not pushing one.

Anyway, to answer your question, yes I have three teenagers, all very well behaved young adults of whom I am very proud. You ask why I joined a forum to quote a book? I am facinated by the consequences of inconsistent parenting, and the way teenagers that have come into my household as guests take advantage of that inconsistency with their parents. I was curious to solicit other opinions, but maybe this is the wrong place for that? Just shows my inexperience with web forums. Case in point - Dadu2004 says my first post is too spammy - I'll have to ask my daughter what that means!

Probably just timing. Had a rash of spammy troll type of post. your came in at the end of it. Just one of those things I think.

Also your kinda coming out of the chute "this is what parents should do" (not your words) Probably not your intent but like I said if you look at some of the post in the last few days it was a little "off putting" That said, Sorry for not giving you much of a chance.

Of course the points made in your OP were valid. The thing is (speaking for myself) a lot of the time my wife and I lack the displine to pull some of those things off.

While your OP may be considered by some (no doubt) to be "best practices" Real world demands allow my focus to be fragmented. I worry about a job, car, bills, food, things breaking, my daughters special needs ect. So I (not arguing your point) prefer not to think that I am less of a parent because I dont adhere to a strict structure.

And spammy means like an advertisement or with a promotional agenda.
