Children: Luke James Hunt: 23 months old | Daycares without Qualified Providers | | So i was talking to an aquaintance of mine, and she said she is working at a daycare for the summer. And i asked, are you qualified? and the response was no, i took admin studies. But she's been working there on and off for 5 years (she's my age so she started working there at 18) and the boss is apparently very accomodating.
To me this is an outrage! Why would a daycare hire NON qualified daycare providers??? Just becuase you have a child doesn't make you a qualified daycare provider (the aquaintence has a child)!

Children: Nichole | Re: Daycares without Qualified Providers | | I am pretty sure most are not qualified in a particular waqy. The only ones that usually are, are the teachers themselves. THe other people are usually helpers. |

Children: Luke James Hunt: 23 months old | Re: Daycares without Qualified Providers | | i honestly think thats ridiculous! I mean daycare providers are qualified for CPR, Choking, first aid etc etc etc. Why would they want a "helper" who didn't know how to react in certain situations? I konw i wouldn't want to send my child to an establishment where everyone wasn't qualified

Children: 1 boy, Nolan Kai | Re: Daycares without Qualified Providers | | I don't see a problem with it. My first job was at a daycare (loved it!) and I was in no way "qualified" (I am certified to do CPR since I'm in nursing school) but the kids loved me and I did a good job. I think as long as there are qualified people around there's no reason to not have a few "helpers" that aren't.

Children: 1 girl 3yo | Re: Daycares without Qualified Providers | | My cousin is a director of a child care facility, at the time she started there she had no qualifications. She just got her degree this month. She has been there for 12 years and does a great job. If I lived in her area I would send my child there. It's about the people as much as the credentials. When you look at my situations, my daughters teacher is sleeping with her dad. (See "I need some advice") and she has credentials. |

Children: 1 3-year-old boy | Re: Daycares without Qualified Providers | | A piece of paper doesn't "qualify" you to work with my child. I am much more concerned with how you treat my son, who you speak to him and that you have something to tell me at the end of the day that lets me know you were paying attention not only to his safety, but to his personality.
It doesn't take a whole lot to get certified as a home day care operator, so I don't know what you think should happen in a center..that they all have an early childhood degree? I could open a day care here if I got a land line phone (vs my cell) and an inspection from the state (already have the first aid/cpr). |

Children: DD (newly 10) and DS (almost 12) | Re: Daycares without Qualified Providers | | I used to teach PreK at a preschool/daycare. I was a certified teacher at the time, but was not CPR certified. I had a teacher's aid, who was a mom with a high school diploma. |

Children: One boy 8, twin girls 7. | Re: Daycares without Qualified Providers | | Here you have to have so many credits in child education all of which you can take online but have to go somewhere to take the final test. You have to have this within 90 days of hire. CPR is also asked within a certain amount of time along with a TB test. However, this is not needed before they work most of the time. SOME have workers fingerprinted but not back ground checked and also do not require drug testing. Daycare "teachers" are usually the one's with a certain number of hours of classes. They are no way educationally trained on proper child behavior or the different types of children. Here you can take classes of your own choice for extra teaching courses. It doesn't make your pay any higher. I think they only pay day care workers minimum wage. Not a respected job here honestly. There is a high turn over in "teachers" |
