Something wonderful is happening in one of my bass player forums that I thought the gang here would like to hear.
Here is the original Post:
Grace is a teenage girl who goes to my church.
My family and her family have known each other since before I was born.
Grace has wanted to play bass for 3 or 4 years, but there are a few things that were standing in her way, making it difficult, if not impossible, for her to play bass.
First, Grace has spina bifida. She is paralyzed from the waist down. Due to her condition, she is also very small. And, she has severe curvature of the spine, for which she is getting ready to have major surgery next month. She had several operations leading up to this one, but this is the one where they put rods in her back.
Second, Grace had nobody to teach her to play bass. We are in a pretty small town, and the one music store doesn't have much in the way of musical instruction.
Third, due to Grace's size and condition, most basses are too large, too heavy, and have too big of a neck for her tiny hands.
And fourth, Grace has no bass.
Since that post, she has received a brand new bass and amp, there are over a dozen bass books, effect pedals, and numerous bass accessories, DVD's CD's and tons more being sent her way, she has been nicknamed AmazingGrace (after Victor Wooten's incredible solo bass version of the song - trust me, this is a pinacle song in the bass world, and it is our pleasure to give her that name)
She is about to go into surgery, and about 50,000+ bass players and other musicians are rooting for her speedy recovery. As soon as she can she will be starting her lessons.
Meet Grace, the day she got her bass at her church.
None of us have met her yet, but we are all looking forward to it.
Isn't this wonderful?, and isn't AmazingGrace lovely?
