 | "Bassett Baby Crib" disaster, Wendy Bellisomo Convertable Crib | | Well, I finally made a big break through… It seems someone realizes the potential danger in this crib. Toys R Us discontinued selling it in Babies R Us as of today. A Toys R Us Corporate Customer Satisfaction agent contacted me today saying there was a “stop sale”.
For those of you that do not know my story,,,here it is:
October 09,2007 CPSC came and took my baby's crib for an investigation into this poorly made crib. It is a Wendy Bellissimo Convertable Crib, Made by Bassett in China.
This happened September 20, 2007. My wife and I awoke to my baby, 13 months old at 24 lbs, screaming because her hand was being hit from the front rail. It's obvious the hole was drilled to close to the edge. There are stress cracks on 3 top corners of the crib were the bolts enters. This whole crib could have fell apart.
This has situation occured 34 days ago. I have been on this one man crusade to do something about it. I feel that furniture manufacturers take too long to get the word out... I want this to change..
Mr. Bellissimo contacted me personally about a week ago expressing his sincere concern after he noticed a letter from me on his wifes web page. He was so concerned and I believe he was the one to finally get the wheels turning. As soon as he saw my pictures he knew there was a problem and decided something had to be done. Finally.
I know some people don’t watch the news because we are on the computer too much. Maybe this will help those people like me…

Is there anything you can add about what to look for in a safe crib? |

 | Re: "Bassett Baby Crib" disaster, Wendy Bellisomo Convertable Crib | | I am by no means an expert yet,,, getting close though with this crib safety.. I think it is almost impossible to avoid things made in China. From the get go of having this crib, it didn't seem too stable because of the small legs. It sure looked pretty though and somewhat solid.
I guess you just need to look the whole crib over periodically...make sure bolts are tight..and also make sure there is some sort of teething guard on any rail once the baby can stand. We didn't know we had a little beaver chewing away in there..... We would have never noticed these stress cracks because they were out of plain sight.
Our new Sorelli crib,,,you can't even wiggle. If the house falls down I want to be in it. I have pics of it on myspace. |

Children: Nichole | Re: "Bassett Baby Crib" disaster, Wendy Bellisomo Convertable Crib | | lol, yay my daughters crib was her two cousins before her and not a scractch on it, I get my pumpkin in there and she has chewed a few spots. Its not the worse I have seen but still.
Thanks for some suggestions. Our crib is also rock solid. I have no clue what type it is or where it was purchased from. It is about 8 years old though and I still lay in it with Nichole, when she wakes up. Its a convertable so no I am not climbing in it. lol |

If you have American made furniture, odds are you're going to pay a premium for it. There are exceptions, but the good quality brands mostly manufactured in North Carolina.
Some brands are better than others. |

all comes down to you get what you pay for. i will gladly spend the extra money for something when it would come to my children, knowing that it is better and safer. or hell. id even build my own if i had time, that way i KNOW its sturdy and safe. thanks for sharing this info with everyone, crib disaster
