Lightbulb Kids and cleaning supplies

I try to teach my son to help clean up. Due to his sensitive skin, allergies and asthma, we have to be really careful with cleaning supplies; for both things he uses to clean and things he touches.

When he was little little; we used steam to clean things. Those steamer floor cleaners're great if you have floors that will take it.

Good ol' Dawn dish liquid doesn't bother him.

Vinegar for cleaning windows is awe... uh, it's good.

Murphy's oil soap on the wood. Does that stuff smell fabulous, or what?

And my favorite - the Magic Eraser for everything in between, including cleaning the bathroom sink and shower stall.

Interestingly enough, he has had few problems with laundry detergent or fabric softener. Go figure. We use Tide and Bounce.

What about you? What're your household cleaning faves for kiddo safety/comfort?

I have only used Tide for cleaning clothes as well. I have allergies to laundry soap and Tide and ironically enough Bounce have never bothered me. Everything else makes me break out in HIves. So when DD was born we didn't buy that expensive baby soap, we just used good ol Tide Free! Never had problem.

When my kids were just born, we used Dreft laundry detergent. When the got a little older, and realized that they'd been leaning on Mama and Daddy with no ill effects, we started washing their clothes in the same thing we used. Boy did that save us some money!!

OMGosh I forgot about Dreft. Someone had gotten me a couple of boxes of it for my baby shower, and I loved the way it smelled. Then when I ran out I went to buy some...

Me =

It just didn't add up with all the other baby necessities!

Cleaning supplies can definitely pose many serious health risks when they come into contact with children....even very dangerous for adults! Our skin is a huge sponge that absorbs everything it comes into contact with so being selective on the products used in your home (from personal hygiene products to cleaning products) is definitely very important.

I have an informational brochure regarding household cleaners and products that are used on a daily basis in most homes and the effects they can have on children that I would be happy to mail to anyone interested. Just drop me an e-mail.

I just thought of one cleaning product that I use that I love! geez I hope its okay to use. I love the clorox anywhere spray. Its suppose to be safe on childrens highchairs. ITs the only thing I use to clean her highchair.

Have you tried natural products? There are some real good ones out there and with most having no chemicals it is a lot less likely to cause a reaction. I use them myself and they have helped out a lot as my son has/had asthma. Havent had a single attack since I switched cleaning stuff.

I used Murphy's Oil Soap when my sons were little and still do. I love putting a few drops of Lavender EO into it for special occasions or after there has been illness in the house.

I have heard about the natural problems but have not tried them as of yet. I just use soap and water and let them help clean the appliances. I am surprised that so many of you can use Tide. This is the worst one for me and my one son.
