 | Protecting my Kids | | I have 5 children. I am a very nervous parent. I have been scared a couple times when I have turned around and my kids had disappeared for a second. It is the worst feeling in the whole world. Then I was watching the news the other night and they started throwing out these scary facts about how many kids go missing everyday. Like 2100 or something. I got on the internet and researched. I thought we had amber alert and I didn't understand why if that many kids went missing or run away, why they weren't on T.V. .Come to find out, if my kid went missing, they have to met all these things to be put on alert. Can't runaway. Has to be cause for them to think that there was foul play.. and so on. Well then I looked around for other programs. I found this... childprotectionsolutions.com . If one of my kids disappears, then they post a video on their site, send it to all the police agencies, print some posters for me to put up, put a $50,000 reward up, and hire a private investagator. And there isn't a quota to meet. Which is nice for me because I have an older child, and I'm always worried about him getting in trouble. At first, I thought there would be no way for me to sign all my children up for something like this... but tehn I looked at the price.. $50 for two years. And they gave me a discount on my other kids. Anyway, I thought I would tell all the other concerned parents out there about this. I'm REALLY excited about this. |

Children: one beautiful baby girl | Re: Protecting my Kids | | Honestly I'm not too impressed. I have a hard time trusting a company who's website has an amaturish appearance (both in design and copy). I can't find much information on the company via a quick search -- also no Better Business Bureau stuff (good or bad). And the service? Eh. The downloadable flyer they'll create for you can be easily done in any word processing program. If you had a missing child and appealed to the community, I'm fairly certain you'd be able to get the word out and have websites put up (free of charge). I guess (assuming the company can be trusted) the $50k reward and hiring of a private investigator is like buying insurance but again I just don't get the "I trust this company" vibe from the website so I wouldn't be confident that would really happen.
Also, no offense intended, when people come to a forum and the first post they post promotes a product, many times the poster is a shill. Of course there is the chance you're here trying to do a good thing but I'm just saying what the norm is. |

Children: Nichole | Re: Protecting my Kids | | LMAO TOM, you are great!!! I looked at the site myself and I don't get what you are paying 50 bucks for. So yo pay them 50 every year and they get to sit on your money, while the off chance your child gets kidnapped, then what? They post some fliers? My printer can do that. Heck mine might even be better then theres. It would probably take 3 weeks to get the fliers in the first place. Now getting the word out is important in kidnapping cases, but why pay someone else to do what you can do. Also there are many programs out there that will take picture ID's of your child every year for this purpose. And oh wait they must not be reliable when they don't charge me 50 a year to do it., |

Children: one beautiful baby girl | Re: Protecting my Kids | | heh. Yeah well it'll be interesting to see if Stareeyed posts again. The web is really turning in to nonstop gueriella marketing and it's a shame. Quote:

 | Re: Protecting my Kids | | Yes, I'm going to write back. I signed my kids up. I thought it was a great idea. I've gotten some of those cop picture things done, but I always loose the disk. I thought it would be nice not to have to be responsible for keeping up with it. and it's a video image. I don't know maybe you guys are right. There was another on.. that was on Oprah and stuff but it was like $400.. for the same service. Oh well. Just thougth it sounded good and thougth others might as well. |

If I understand the website correctly - they send you instructions for doing the video yourself then they handle storage. So it seems you could accomplish the same with a safety deposit box or simply file it with your important files (birth certificates, etc) if you're always losing the disc.
My main problems with the site is that I find it hard to figure out exactly what service they're providing and regarding what they do advertise, details seem scarce. For instance I see no legal regarding the $50k and the private investigator. How do I know the private investigator is any good? Do I have the option to choose another? How long will they keep the investigation going? What are the stipulations (if any) for the $50k? How long has this company been in business? What reassurances do I have that they actually have the means to back up their claims?
So again I just don't get the trust vibe after looking at the site. Good luck with the service though - hopefully I'm wrong. |

Children: Nichole | Re: Protecting my Kids | | I'm with you that one, yo sure looked at that site more closely then I did though. So if you have to make a video of your child and turn it in every year, that seems like just as much work as just well... I am a first itme mom and I can tell you I have lots of video of Nichole that I could share with anyone who wanted to see. You might be busy for awhile though if you watched them all. lol
So what would be the difference in me taking video and giving it to the police or them holding the video? I don't get it either |

| Re: Protecting my Kids | | I didn't bother going to the website. We have people in our community that help if there's a problem like that - they're called policemen. And, I won't have to wait for them to take action. If there's a problem, they're more than willing to help. That's what they're there for. I hope you weren't taken, though. |

 | Re: Protecting my Kids | | Without even visiting the site I have a hard time with believing that they would hire a private investagator. I know they don't come cheap. I hope that you didn't get taken. I know where you are coming from with getting on the amber alert. Alot of people don't realize that you have to meet certain criteria to get on it. The only reason I know that is becasue I seen a special about this exact same problem with the Amber alert. Not to say that it isn't a good thing though. |
