Default Slow Children

Our son I'm told is slow. I see it more as laziness than slow and am finding out it's probably me so I'm wondering how does one get the patience that I need to help him out and help me become a better father?

Prayer LOL. It takes more patience to deal with a child who has a disability than one who doesn't. I have found that over time and understanding my daughters handicap I have developed more patience. Do his teachers have any guidance they can offer?

Who's saying he's slow? Has he been tested? Have you tried a tutor?
Some kids around 12 start to realize half the stuff they are teaching you will probably never use to why bother.

Smartness wise he's at the top of his class. All of the State tests say so. To myself it's just being lazy but Dana who I'm slowly, possibly too slowly, learning that he has challenges. I adopted Dylan and from my understanding at birth he gave mom quite a few twists and turns in coming out and she was almost dead on the table. Thankfully they're both fine and doing well.

It seems he does things fast, and 100% accurate, if he's motivated: friends, wanting to play, etc. for most things. On Friday he had to do dishes before he could play and took three hours even though IMO it should've taken about 30 minutes. In class he talks a lot which is both good and bad as talking is good for social interaction but bad because it wasn't being done at the right time (between classes, before/after, etc.). I know he's more than capable but get side tracked a lot.

We've had him tested, gone to shrinks, etc. and they tell us he will be fully operational when he's older but no one can truly say when "older" truly is.

I think I would want to get another opinion. It seems as if he just does not have an interest in certain things. People are so quick to say a child is "slow" or ADD / ADHD.
