Children: Marissa 10-04-06, James 05-01-01 and Jessica 12-01-98 | Weaning | | I know I am new here, but I just thought I"d share that I am weaning my daughter! She turned a year old on Oct 4th. After her birthday she slowly started nursing less, down to only night time/early morning, and now she hasn't nursed in about 2 days! She seems to be doing just fine, and doesn't get fussy for the breast! She doesn't pull on me to try and nurse either.
I am soooooo HAPPY that we were able to go for 13 months, and that she never had to have formula, and only had breastmilk in a bottle when she was about a week old when she had some latch on issues.
I am sad though, that it's coming to an end. Reality sinks in that she is growing up fast!
She is my last child, so it's hard knowing I'll never have this experience again. But, I love how much she is learning and how much she can accomplish. She surprises me with something new each day
Anyway, thanks for listening to me ramble! |

Children: Nichole | Re: Weaning | | Well congrats for nursing for a ayear!! You gave her such a great gift. My little one started to wean when she was 12 months old as well, but by 14 months had picked it back up. We are still going now at 22 months, but are down to once a day. So we will be dropping that one very shortly!!
I completely understand how you are so excited to be done with it but at the same time so sad that it is really over. Hang in there! Your baby knows when she is done. |

As long as she gets her snuggle time then she is fine She LOVES 2% milk and sometimes I mix it with a little bit of strawberry nestle powder...<BTW, they sell it in the mexican area of the grocery...has added vitamins and supposed to be much healthier than the regular stuff>.
I am not having any engorgement issues, and really not sore either. Every now and then I feel a little 'touchy' like if I rub up against something, but otherwise....no issues there.
It'll be real hard getting rid of my breastpump though.....I used to pump all the time to mix it with her cereal, etc. up until she started taking whole milk. |

Children: Nichole | Re: Weaning | | lol, I used to hand express for that as well. I was faster then any ol pump. It was a good hospital grade one too, but I still was faster.
You should just be very proud that you did it for one year!! |

Children: Nichole | Re: Weaning | | It sure is!!! I do have to admit that I ended up nursing her on Monday morning. She asked one time and I said yes. I needed the closure. I know that is so bad for her, I was feeling very guilty that I didn't get that last time. Of course if she self weaned it would have been differnet but I forced this on her. So we cuddles on the couch with a blanket and I talked to her and told her this was the last time and all that other mushy mommy talk.
So now we are on the 2nd day of completely no nursing. She hasn't nursed since Monday morning. I don't feel guilty anymore, I feel like we ended so greatly. I am glad I did that last one, even though that was just one more day, I really needed it. That's sooo horrible but I don't care.
I just realized we weaned on exactly 22 months and 2 days old!!
Oh also she asked yesterday, one time in the morning (thats when we nursed) and I said not right now I am making bacon, she said ok and awalked away!!! She asked again today and I just said, no baby, and she just went on her way and hasn't asked since!!!! |

Children: Nichole | Re: Weaning | | lol what song??
OMG though the other night Family giuy was one and the mom was weaning him from the breast. It was soo hysterical. She was laying in bed sleeping and Stewy put a breast pump on her and filled a baby bottle up with it all while saying things like "oh yay baby, give it to me give me the good stuff" Then he took the bottle and tried to leave, but tripped on the rug and all the milk spilled out!! He was crying and licking the floor!!! I was in tears!
And we are doing good bTW, she hasn't nursed since Monday morning and seems to be doing really well with it. Other then the last 2 nights she has been VERY clingy. Won't let me just lay her down to sleep she cries and cries and says "sit with me" very pathetic. She is teething right now as well, at least it is red and poking through the gums so.... it may be that as well |

Children: Isabella (9), Josephine (8), Hannah (5), and Natalia (7 months) | Re: Weaning | | Okay it went like this "I drink from a sippy cup, sippy cup, sippy cup. I drink from sippy cup cuz I'm a big kid now. Bye bye boobies. Bye bye boobies. Bye bye boobies. Cuz I'm a big kid now." I had just read your weaning post. Charlie was becoming the next big kids music star and there were so many awful songs. My friend and I were dying of laughter though.
