 | Accidental Exposure to Marijuana | | Hello to all. My wife, who is 19 weeks pregnant, recently attended a bachelorette party. At this party, she took a bite of a pot-laced brownie before being alerted to its drug content. She said she didn't feel high from this bite, but did feel somewhat more relaxed.
I am concerned (admittedly, perhaps overly so) about the consequences of this drug ingestion on our baby. Does anyone know the effects of eating (as opposed to smoking) a small amount of THC in the second trimester? And is there any way she can rapidly cleanse her body (e.g. upping her fluid intake)? FYI, my wife has otherwise been drug- and alcohol-free throughout her pregnancy.
Thank you. |

Congrats by the way |

 | Re: Accidental Exposure to Marijuana | | Thank you, that is reassuring. It was, indeed, just one bite. My wife hasn't used pot since college and rarely drinks, so we were both pretty freaked out by this. Googling the issue only added to our worries, since there appear to be a lot of studies out there about how marijuana can affect birth weight, etc. But I reckon those studies mostly involve regular users.
Thanks, too, for your congratulations. We'll be finding out the baby's sex tomorrow! |

It reminds me of a time right before I found out I was preg w/ ds. I went out with a girlfriend to a concert, it was my first night out in seriosly 2 yrs. I drank for the first time in a very very long time, 2 wks later I found out I was 6 wks along...OMG. I talked my doctor and he told me no worries. The effects of things like that show up in the poeple who don't stop because they are preg. one keep doing it long into the preg.
I would say your little one will be just fine...if you're truely worried, let the dr know, he isn't going to get your wifes friends in trouble but he can probably calm you fears a bit, plus that way he has all the facts shuld he need them |

 | Re: Accidental Exposure to Marijuana | | Thanks for the reply! Yes, I think we're going to ask the OB/GYN about this tomorrow (though my wife is a little embarrassed to bring it up). I'm pretty sure it's no big deal, and my wife has otherwise been taking great care of her body. But it will be good to have a professional opinion.
Needless to say, we've been worrying about this a lot the past few days. Welcome to parenthood, I reckon...:-) |

| Re: Accidental Exposure to Marijuana | | I don't think one bite would cause any problelms, but why on earth would anyone bring laced brownies to a bachlorette party to begin with? That's just dumb! You should never lace food or drink with something like that. If someone wants to smoke or drink, they should do so knowingly. |

Children: one beautiful baby girl | Re: Accidental Exposure to Marijuana | | My layman assumption is also that there is little to worry about from such a small amount one time. Consider your wife has no tolerance and from the sounds of it she isn't really sure she felt any effects so I'm thinking that very little likely got in to her system. I probably would not attempt any "cleansing", etc. Keep hydrated and eat healthy (as usual). A lesson to everyone - LABEL your pot brownies! |

 | Re: Accidental Exposure to Marijuana | | Thanks to all for the helpful replies! Much appreciated, and I'm looking forward to using this forum a lot in the coming months and years.
The weird thing about the brownies is that the hostess made them because she knew my wife would be there, and didn't want any smoke in the air! Isn't there an old chestnut about the road to Hell being paved with good intentions? :-) |
