At the Dr. visit this morning we were advised that we can talk about clamping time with the Dr. on duty when the time comes and barring any emergency it probably would be ok with the Dr. to wait until pulsing stops.

With regards to cord blood banking - we decided on Viacord. While certainly nothing for us to sneeze at, they offer 6-months interest free payments for the collection and 1st year storage cost ($1,970), then annual payment of the storage fee ($125/year) after that. The $125 is guaranteed not to go up for 25 years. I was expecting more out of pocket right away so I was happy with the plans they offer.

Well good. I am glad you made the decision to bank the blood. Also make sure you and your wife have your birthplab made out completely. Have it with you and be prepared to have to push it. You hav eto be the advocate for your wife no matter what. I remember having to tell my dh a billion times while pregnant (he can be quiet in new situations) that HE would have to do I want him to do. No DRUGS!!!! I didn't want any drugs for my nirth, I get cooky on tylonal, many women can't remember their births do to them> I did get an epidural though lol. Wish I didn't though. But I'll tell you my husband had the hardest time dealing with me in pain, he didn't know what to do. So be prepared, have your birthplan out and ready, give it to anyone who walks into your room. If you want anything specific make sure you stand up and tell them. They might roll their eyes at you or whatever but they will do it if you are willing to push it. Rmemeber this is your wife, daughters and of course your day, not the hospitals.

Thanks Kaytee. Good advice (as always). I'm the same way (typically quiet, go with the flow) so I'll just have to mentally prepare a bit to make sure our wishes are carried out.

absolutly, don't be afraid of the nurses (you see them alot more then the doc, unless your wife is lucky like me and only have labor for a few hours. You can do it, just remember what your wife wanted and do it, of course if she wants no drugs and 12 hours into labor she is begging for drugs, well then...give the women some drugs!! lol It just depends on how she is and what she wants. I know I told my husband before going into labor that no matter what I said during labor no drugs, absolutly no drugs. Luckily it was short and it never got to that point. I went from no labor to active and pushing in less then 2 hours

This was fairly new when I had my sons and actually I was unaware of it. If I had known about it I myself would have opted to save it. I would love to know that if it were ever needed it would be their.
